Lisango Dialogue Program - ENYC

Tuneme5

Gender Based Violence (GBV) is on the rampage in Eswatini. Particularly, the Shiselweni and Manzini regions are the mainstream for GBV. This is followed by Hhohho and subsequently, the Lubombo region. The Council launched a comprehensive initiative dubbed “LISANGO”, focusing on addressing and “arresting” this fatal scourge. This initiative seeks to rigorously raise awareness, provide strategic support services and linkages/referrals and promote gender equality through community engagement. By leveraging partnerships with local organizations, government bodies and grassroots, youth implementing and youth led organizations, the ‘LISANGO’ initiative aims to create a safer more equitable society for all individuals in Eswatini particularly women and girls by addressing the root causes of GBV. Since inception in 2023, the initiative has reached 300 young people in different communities, (Kwaluseni, Ticantfwini, and Mathendele). Initially the Programme targeted men and boys, and in its expansion, it has accommodated young girls and women. It enables all young people to join in the conversations around GBV and for them to come up with solutions to address this issue which most particularly affects them. Objectives of the Programme Raising Awareness: Conducting community outreach activities in the respective regions on programs that educate community members, especially adolescent girls, young woman, adolescent boys and young men about GBV and its impact. Providing Support Services: Strengthening the availability of support services and linkages for GBV survivors, including counseling, mental health and medical care. Promoting Gender Equality: Advocating for policy strengthening and gender-sensitive practices to promote equality and protect the rights of all citizens with emphasis on women and girls. Engaging Men and Boys: Involving men and boys as prevention to address the prevalence of GBV and promoting positive gender norms.
